For a heterosexist, heteronormative, Hollywood rom com, it was really well done. The lead (Anna Faris) and her supporting actor (Chris Evans, who, yes because of my SteveRogersandBuckyBarnes obsession was the whole reason I was watching the film) did a really, really nice job. The running gags were reasonably funny. The family interactions were, as far as these things go, believable-ish. It was about as feminist as a story about finding 'the [heterosexual] one' could be.

But the patness and the platitudes and the middle classness / privilege and the whiteness, my gods the whiteness, and aforementioned heterosexism and heteronormativity have left me feeing a bit down.

What I don't get is why movies still have to be so white and heteronormative. And if there are POC characters, they're usually not only tokens, but cringeworthy stereotypes taken right out of the 1950's. :/

Yeah. There were two really minor PoC roles in this film: 1. a mutual friend of the lead and the lead's sister (who is getting married), and who wasn't sassy; 2. one of the lead's exes who is a gay Republican politico. So they didn't go with the usual stereotypes, but that didn't make the film any less white.

Especially if they were that minor, yeah. You can't just throw in a black character and a gay character (who each get about four solid lines) and go "see? Diverse!"

Perhaps I need to watch Four Weddings and a Funeral again, because it had two characters who had decent screen time who were gay, and one who was D/deaf.

I feel ya! this is how I feel at the end of most movies. Few have enough good to overcome the disappointments!

:-( Perhaps this is why I tend to only watch superhero / comic book / SF / fantasy.
