So, my favourite Star Trek pairing has always been Spock/McCoy (or McCoy/Spock, either way I'm happy), and now there's all this new Reboot canon to add to TOS and, and...

...really, this is just a pathetic request for recs, because my Google-fu has left me.

Pretty please?

For the last several months, my happy place has been here - Nightswimming by [livejournal.com profile] wax_jism.

It's a gorgeous, gorgeous coming of age story. The protagonist is engaging and lovable and a little shit all at the same time. The relationships are believable, the sex is scorchingly hot and the teenage drama that follows it is just the right level of over the top to be realistic. ([livejournal.com profile] rhiannon_s, this is the one I was telling you about a while back.)

Technically, it's a bandom RPS AU, but I prefer to think of it as a story that's cast in the head of the author with fictional, younger versions of real people, who happen to be in a band together, as the actors. Some parts of it make more sense if you read this first - Everyday Mysteries in the Summertime by the same author.

Chimerical Romantics by [livejournal.com profile] dsudis. Bandom, Gerard/Frank, 19th Century AU, 22,315 words.
Warnings for explicit sex, dubious historicity, vodka, sodomy, and the lash. Gerard is a gentleman, Frank is a sailor. *glee!*

Basic Training Part 1: Selection (Prologue) by [livejournal.com profile] lusiology Harry Potter, Auror fic, Harry/Draco, PG-13, 770 words.
Draco made the grade, but will he survive Basic Training and Potter.

The Handsome Stranger part 14: The Night Train by [livejournal.com profile] dragon_charmer Harry Potter, AU, Harry/Veela!Draco, R.
Trains and planes and decisions. Mention of mpreg. Fluff ... lots and lots of fluff!!

One to make you cry, from [livejournal.com profile] snaco_exchange: Twilight Rain, Draco/Snape, NC17
(It does have a happy ending, I promise - that's what made me cry. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] ravenna_c_tan for the rec.)

One to make you laugh, from merry_smutmas: Let Go, Harry/Draco, R
(Sorry, can't remember who pointed me at that one - but thank you, whoever you were!)

Corridors of Power by [livejournal.com profile] blythely

Being An Originally Intermittent Account of the Political (Mis)Adventures of the Viscount Northallerton, Lord Malfoy of Wimbledon; and the Rt. Honourable Harry J. Potter, Member of Parliament for North Southwark and Bermondsey (Liberal Democrat); and Various and Sundry Peers of the Realm, Members of the British Houses of Parliament, Officials of the Ministry of Magic, and Some Prominent Celebrities. Annotated, with Footnotes.

This fic is utterly brilliant - a hilarious take on British (especially New Labour) politics, fairly sizzling with H/D UST - and now [livejournal.com profile] blythely has written an Epilogue! In two parts!! In which the event we've been waiting for with bated breath since the beginning finally occurs!!!

The sex is visceral and vicious, Ron is very amusing while also being rather sweet, Hermione is perfectly Hermione, and poor, poor Harry... and Narcissa. What I love about this fic is how many changes of fortune occur over its course and how no character and no situation is unalloyed. Wonderful.

I am gobsmacked by the remix of Tracks of Water: Tracks of Water (The First Drop Remix (http://community.livejournal.com/hd_remix/8694.html)

It is, truly, perfect. I would never even have attempted writing Draco's perspective, let alone in the first person, purely from a personal angst perspective. This author not only does it, but does it with grace and clarity, making you understand Draco, and how it's the only thing he can possibly do.

Go. Read. Be prepared to cry.

Go and read this by [livejournal.com profile] elfwreck - for anyone who has ever loved, or loathed, a PC or a Mac. ::g::

I have finally got around to reading World Well Lost by Azalais Malfoy (aka [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93).

It's an AU. Not only that, it is an historical AU. It is set (mostly) in Italy and all but one of the characters are OC. Normally, this is the kind of thing I would give a wide berth, however, having read so much about the characters in [livejournal.com profile] ataniell93's journal, I decided I just had to read it, and I am so, so glad I did. It is superb, beautifully written, the characters live and breathe and love and hate and are complex and wonderful.

Go and read it, right now. And leave feedback. (Just like I'm going to when I've finished it... ::ahem::)

Now it's Twelfth Night, and the Smutmas reveals have happened, I wanted to rec my favourite smutmas fics - not because I think anyone should be swayed by my judgement but because I have enjoyed them so much, and the writers deserve all the praise they are getting and more.

The master list is here (I haven't put links to each fic below, as some of their locations may change soon but the master list will be updated).

My two absolute favourites are Reprieve by [livejournal.com profile] furiosity for [livejournal.com profile] emmagrant01 and The Strelsau Waltz by [livejournal.com profile] ellid for [livejournal.com profile] _inzilbeth_. They are both wonderfully written with hot sex and verge towards the fluffy without being too sweet. Bliss :-)

Other fics I thought completely rocked:

Boxing Day by [livejournal.com profile] yeats for [livejournal.com profile] geoviki. This fic completely blew me away - I quote you my feedback: "Wow. Wow. The way you uncover the violence of the state. The way you show the risk of being real and true in the face of a state stepped beyond itself. The way you tell of humanity and forgiveness and connection, and their vital role in bringing individuals and thus systems back from the brink. All that and a happy ending! Wow." The only reason it's not one of my favourites is I've been in a fluffy, uncomplicated kind of mood.

Practicing the Same Religion by [livejournal.com profile] geoviki for [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunki. Vulnerable!noble!Draco, fucked up Wizarding justice, mpreg, angst. sweetness. ::sighs::

To The Victor by [livejournal.com profile] simmysim for [livejournal.com profile] ella_bane (Harry/Draco/Ron). Laugh out loud funny and extremely hot (bondage and D/s) three-way action. Also crack. Who could want for more?

What Black Hours by [livejournal.com profile] catrinella for [livejournal.com profile] moshes. Dark!fic, voyeurism and a twist in the tail. Yummy.

Fidelius by [livejournal.com profile] coffeejunki for [livejournal.com profile] hydaspes. An original way to bring the boys together, and a satisfying conclusion.

Hot Chocolate by [livejournal.com profile] silentauror for [livejournal.com profile] jamie2109. Short, angsty, sweet. Brava :-)

One Night at the Ministry by [livejournal.com profile] maeglinyedi for [livejournal.com profile] ausmac. Very, very silly, funny and hot.

Malfoy Manner by [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy for [livejournal.com profile] silentauror. Hot and sweet.

White by [livejournal.com profile] jamie2109 for [livejournal.com profile] justapresence. Rentboy Harry!

A Very Long Misadventure by [livejournal.com profile] hydaspes for [livejournal.com profile] rosesanguina. A TimeTurner accident while Harry is searching for a Horcrux sends Harry and Draco back in time. Well researched, intriguing twists, amusing Ministry memoranda, indeterminate ending. Nice one.

And I just want to say that all the other fics I read were also really, really great (including the Harry/Snape and the Draco/Giant Squid ::g::).
