Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Draco/Remus, hints of Harry/Draco
Rating: R
Wordcount: 1575
Warnings: none
Summary: Draco comes to Grimmauld Place – but is it for protection or for perfidy?
Disclaimer: JKR owns these characters. I just play with them.
i. Most of this fic is in the form of 100 and 200 word drabbles. The last section ran away with me, but to good places :-)
ii. [livejournal.com profile] roseeva's prompt: Draco/Remus. Draco attempts to seduce Remus after joining the order. Could be a DE plot -- extra fanning if you manage either Remus/Harry or Harry/Draco.

Following a comment by [livejournal.com profile] clotilde and my sitting practice experiences this morning, I've decided I have a new take on slash - its spiritual significance.

My hypothesis: slash is the perfect tool for exploring one's self, one's desires and needs (particularly the desires that remain hidden most of the time) because slash is erotic fiction involving archetypes. Which aspects of one's self need to be reconciled, brought to union? Which are essential to the whole but need to stay away from one another - and how can they work together when required without killing one another? What are the turn-ons and what are the squicks? Does it vary from character to character, universe to universe? What is forbidden, to whom and why? Each of these has spiritual significance beyond whether or not it turns us on - sex is after all access to and emblem of ecstasy, giving oneself over completely to that which is more than oneself, and of union ("Make me one with everything," as the Buddhist said to the hot-dog vendor).

I'm going to think this through a bit more and maybe write a bit on it. Has anyone else got any thoughts?

I listened to In Our Time yesterday. It was about the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520 ("a Renaissance entente cordiale", according to our Melv) when Henry VIII and Francis I met to... well, read the website. Suffice to say there was much one-upmanship and truly incredible conspicuous consumption; you know, gold fountains running with claret, an English camp the size of Norwich (which was at the time, at 6000 inhabitants, the second most populous city in England), that sort of thing.

Some of the highlights: Henry and Francis rode towards each other as if to joust, then embraced at the last minute; Francis strode into Henry's bed chamber unannounced, bearing Henry's shirt, and said, "I am your prisoner", before accompanying Henry to mass in the English camp; Henry challenged Francis to a wrestling match (which Francis won, using a Breton throw).

My first thought was to write a slashfic around it. To me it's the natural response to such obvious RL flirting, but [livejournal.com profile] tanais said I have a sick mind. But then, as that's not a bad thing, coming from him, I'm not too bothered. Just have to do enough research to write the fic now...
